Brake Fluid

How quickly can your vehicle stop? The operational safety of your vehicle begins with the brakes. Healthy brake fluid is vital to ensuring your braking system is in tip top condition. Unfortunately, brake fluid doesn’t last forever and it may be time you had yours changed. Brake fluid is hygroscopic, which means it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere. In time the moisture content builds up and is detrimental to your braking system and will reduce the braking efficiency and braking affect of your vehicle or cause your brakes to fail altogether. It is therefore imperative that the old brake fluid is completely removed from the system and changed with new Volkswagen approved brake fluid. We recommend you have this done every two years to be sure your brakes are totally reliable. Please talk to your Volkswagen Service Centre today.

The brake fluid service consists of

  • Drain brake fluid and renew using Volkswagen approved brake fluid. (Use of brake fluid that meets all Volkswagen standards is vital to ensure optimum braking performance.)
  • Test braking system
  • Record in service book
  • Dispose of old brake fluid in accordance with the environmental regulations.

Air conditioning Service: Ensure pleasant comfortable driving 12 months a year.

A natural phenomenon of all air conditioners is that over time condensation and moisture become trapped between the evaporator fins. Dirt, pollen and dust gather on the fins and bacteria and fungi flourish in this environment. These particles are then passed into the vehicles interior and will cause, at the very least, unpleasant musty smells but could also lead to irritation of eyes, throat, bronchial tubes or infections and allergic reactions. This can be unpleasant for everyone in the vehicle but it is particularly upsetting to allergy sufferers and young children. Periodical servicing ensures optimum comfort from your air-conditioning 12 months a year.

The service consists of two separate jobs.

  1. Cleaning, disinfection of your evaporator and replacement of the pollen filter. This is where micro organisms and bacteria like to breed. They enter the cabin through the vents and cause unpleasantness and allergic reactions. Replacing the pollen filter is particularly important as it filters pollen, dust, dirt and other impurities.
  2. The air conditioner system should also be checked regularly for performance and leakage. Natural evaporation of the refrigerant and the possibility of moisture and dirt entering the system through porous seals or stones being deflected up from the road will have a detrimental effect on the system. If this moisture and dirt is not purged from the system regularly it will lead to the total failure of the system and compressor and result in an unexpected expensive repair bill.

Your Volkswagen service center can provide a complete air conditioner service at an attractive all-inclusive fixed price.

NCT preparation

You Volkswagen service centre can prepare your Volkswagen for its NCT test. If your NCT test is looming, don’t worry, your Volkswagen Service Centre will ensure your car is prepared for the test in every way. The preparation is carried out by Volkswagen-trained technicians using specialist tools and technology. If parts are required only Volkswagen Original Parts® are fitted (covered by 2-year parts and labour warranty*)

Windscreen & glass replacement and repair

Do you know that some insurance companies and independent garages do not use Volkswagen approved replacement windscreens. A Genuine Volkswagen approved windscreen must pass numerous tests from resistance to stone chips and scratches to extremely stringent shatter and crash tests which gauge the reaction of the glass during more serious impacts. A correctly fitted genuine part will assure optimum safety, reduce body flex and apart from the possible safety implications of using a non Volkswagen windscreen, use of a non genuine part could also have a detrimental effect on the sealing which could allow moisture to enter the vehicle and allow flexing of the body and cause irritating noises, rattling, and vibration. If replacing any glass in your car insist that Volkswagen genuine parts are used. Windscreen repair Windscreens do not have to be changed for every little scratch or stone chip. It is estimated that 40% of all windscreen damage is repairable: Most scratches and stone chips to windscreen glass can now be repaired using Volkswagen recommended repair materials. Volkswagen Approved Technicians can perform a repair, often within an hour. Contact your local Volkswagen service centre for more information

Timing Belt Replacement

If your timing belt breaks it can be a very unexpected and expensive repair. The timing belt in your Volkswagen plays a critical role in the operation of engine components and ensures these components do not come into contact with each other. If the timing belt breaks, engine components will hit and catastrophic damage could be caused. Timing belts will deteriorate over time even on vehicles which have not covered many kilometres. Timing belt renewal on your Volkswagen is based on kilometres travelled or time in operation. Contact your local Volkswagen dealer without delay and enquire what the recommended change interval is for your vehicle or make an appointment to have your belt checked by Volkswagen-trained technicians Only Volkswagen Original Parts® fitted (covered by 2-year parts and labour warranty*)

Wheel Alignments & Tyres

At delivery your new Volkswagen’s wheels and suspension are perfectly aligned, for optimum safety and handling characteristics. Over time, normal wear and tear, potholes, kerbs and other knocks can affect the alignment, causing uneven or accelerated tyre wear thus compromising the handling and safety of a vehicle. All Volkswagen service centres have invested in the latest 4 wheel alignment measuring equipment containing the latest software specially designed for your vehicle. Their trained and experienced technicians know and understand the suspension of your vehicle and can check and adjust your vehicles wheel alignment faster and more accurately than anyone else, saving you money in the long run with increased tyre life, improved fuel economy and most importantly maintaining the best possible safety and handling of your vehicle. As advised in your owner’s manual, on modern vehicles with extended service intervals checking tyre condition has become an expected part of the vehicle owner's responsibility. Volkswagen recommends that tyres should be checked on a weekly basis or before any long journey. In addition to checking tyre pressures is vitally important that you regularly check your tyres for damage and unusual tyre wear.

Remember that four areas of tyre approximately the size of a size 8 shoe print are the sole point of contact between your car and the road. Healthy tyres are arguably a vehicles most important safety feature. The accepted legal minimum is 1.6mm tread depth, but at this point your tyres are putting you and other road users at greater risk. As tyres wear the tread depth reduces which in turn will have a detrimental effect on the tyres performance and vehicles safety. Independent research shows that worn tyres significantly increase the risk of an accident in the wet. It is recommended you change your tyres when the tread depth reaches 3mm, which gives 25% better performance, or typically 8 metres of stopping distance in wet conditions at 50mph, when compared to tyres with the legal minimum of tread. To ensure optimum road holding when cornering, braking and accelerating it is essential that your tyres are maintained in top condition at all times.

Your local Volkswagen Dealer can assist in the above checks and can recommend an approved tyre for your vehicle should it need to be replaced. Your Volkswagen Dealer is also able to offer a comprehensive replacement package including the environmentally friendly disposal of the old tyre, all at a very competitive price.

Body repairs and estimates

TO MAINTAIN YOUR VOLKSWAGENS SAFETY, DRIVING PLEASURE AND VALUE INSIST ON VOLKSWAGEN GENUINE PARTS AND REPAIR FROM YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY.

YOUR INSURER MAY TRY TO HAVE YOUR VOLKSWAGEN REPAIRED AT AN ANOTHER REPAIRER BUT YOU ARE ENTITLED TO INSIST ON A VOLKSWAGEN APPROVED BODYSHOP. THE CHOICE LAYS WITH YOU NOT THE INSURANCE COMPANY. ENSURE YOUR VEHICLE IS RETURNED TO MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATION BY CHOOSING A VOLKSWAGEN APPROVED DEALER.

Having an accident and observing the body work of your Volkswagen damaged and unsightly can be annoying and stressful. It may seem beyond repair but choose a Volkswagen service centre and you can rest assured that the repair will be carried out to the highest standard using only genuine Volkswagen parts and will be fully guaranteed. Whether it’s a minor scratch or a major repair using genuine body panels will ensure the best possible fit and function. Remember also that whilst the damage might appear to be serious at first glance, damage to your vehicle’s bodywork, paint or windows, does not automatically mean exchanging complete parts at great expense. Minor damage can be rectified straightforwardly without excessive time and expense and, of course, in renowned Volkswagen quality. Most Volkswagen service centres can organise the repair of minor damage quickly and cost-effectively. Modern repair techniques are an ideal solution for rectifying small dents in the body panels, stone chips to paintwork, windscreens and bumpers.Contact your local Volkswagen service centre who would be glad to advise you.

Checks between services

Your Volkswagen is designed to only need a minimum of maintenance. Older Volkswagen’s are designed for a time or distance travelled dependent annual service but most new Volkswagen’s are equipped with world leading technology that continually monitors certain criteria such as driving styles, distance driven and oil quality and will signal the driver when a service is due (See the owner’s manual for specific model information). Irrespective of what technology your Volkswagen is equipped with there are certain things that are vital to safety and reliability such as tyres, fluid levels, lights, brakes and hydraulics that need to be checked between services. Whether you're planning a summer break, preparing for freezing winter conditions or for peace of mind between services make sure your Volkswagen is in peak condition. Contact your local Volkswagen Service Centre who will advise you and can carry out an inspection that suits your requirements.
